Shiatsu in Naperville
A Japanese style of hands-on bodywork, done fully clothed on a floor mat. Shiatsu works with your body's channels, or meridians, to release tension and help your whole system come back into balance.
Pressure, stretching, and stillness
Shiatsu means "finger pressure" in Japanese. I use my palms, thumbs, and sometimes elbows and knees to apply steady pressure along your channels, with gentle stretches that open the joints, a little like what you might feel in yoga. Touch ranges from gentle to firm, depending on what your body needs and what you prefer.
I trained in Zen Shiatsu at Zen Shiatsu Chicago. This style pays close attention to how each channel feels under the hands, and treats the body as one connected system rather than a set of sore spots.
Not just muscles. Your whole system.
- Fully clothed, on a floor mat instead of a table, with no oils
- Works with channels, not only muscles, guided by Traditional Chinese Medicine
- Starts with an assessment at the abdomen to find which channels are depleted and which are overworking
- Addresses stress and emotion held in the body, not only physical tension
In my sessions, Shiatsu is paired with Reiki and Five Element theory. That's what makes it a Somatic Session: you leave with less tension and a clearer understanding of your own patterns.
Every channel has an element
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, each pair of channels belongs to one of the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each element has its own organs, emotions, and season. When I find a channel that's depleted and another that's working overtime, the elements help explain why, and what will help bring them back into balance.

What should I wear?
Soft clothes you can move in, like yoga pants or sweatpants (not shorts) and a loose top. Please wear or bring clean socks.
Does it hurt?
It shouldn't. Some points may feel tender, but the work stays within what feels good to you. You can ask for lighter or firmer pressure anytime.
Will I be sore afterward?
Most women feel relaxed and a little sleepy. Some feel tired the next day as the body processes the work. Drink water and go easy on yourself.
Feel it for yourself.
Every first visit is a 75-minute Somatic Session with Shiatsu, Reiki, and Your Five Element Map.
